Set to live drumming, this class unfolds over a heightened energetic trajectory as dancers are introduced to the vibrant Afro-Brazilian traditional and popular dances of Salvador, Bahia. Through an in depth exploration of their rich cultural-historical contexts, movers are exposed to the details of body mechanics and performance/ energetic qualities including isolations, uses of the spine, hips and pelvis, counter rhythms, and archetypes.

 Classes may focus in on one particular style or combine a variety of the following:

 Orixá Dance Movement, Dança de Caboclo, Dança Afro, Samba de Roda, Samba Reggae

 All of these dances are a celebration of life, culture and community, and are intertwined with live Afro-Brazilian drumming for dancers to gain an understanding of the interconnected relationship between dance and music within Afro-Brazilian culture.
